A New York Mills man is suing the Minnesota Department of Corrections saying he was held in jail for several months longer than state law allows.
Danny Bettcher has a record 28 D-W-I convictions. He was sentenced to four years in prison for a 2009 D-W-I, but he says he was held in the Wright County Jail for 250 days after violating his parole in 2016.
Lawyers for Bettcher say that exceeded the seven-year maximum sentence allowed under Minnesota law.
