A Fargo man has been charged with murder in the death of a man in the victim's downtown apartment.
43-year-old Darrell Peterson is accused of hitting 64-year-old Duane Darling with a piece of furniture. A neighbor called police after they opened the door to Darling's apartment and saw him covered in blood at Pioneer Manor on 11th street north shortly before 7 Tuesday morning.
The complaint says Peterson was found at another Fargo apartment. During a later interview, he told police that he was drunk and didn't remember anything. Peterson then said he and Darling got into an argument and he was defending himself.
Peterson has a long criminal record going back to at least 2005. Many of the charges are misdemeanors for drinking in public. Three of the charges were for panhandling.
