The Fergus Falls Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to a professional building, with several apartments on the corner of Cascade Street and Lincoln Avenue Wednesday night for an electrical smell coming from an attic in a common hallway.

Upon arrival, Fire Chief Ryan Muchow said there wasn't much of a odor, within about 5 minutes that odor kind of turned into a wood burning smell…

Chief Muchow Electrical Odor Call AUDIO

"...We got here here and there wasn't much of an odor, (but) within about five minutes that electrical odor kind of turned into a wood burning smell, so we started opening up ceilings on the second floor apartment. Specifically one right now that we're working on, and found some charring in the insulation along with the the wood truss members that are up there...."

Muchow added that nothing about the smell or any potential fire in the building is considered suspicious. He also emphasized that they had to tear through large amount amounts of insulation to pinpoint the source. The owner of the building was preparing to rent out the unit to a tenant, so no residents will be affected.
