Fitzgibbons Narrowly Declared Unofficial Winner of OTC Sheriff Re-Count

It’s definitely one for the history books, and the unofficial winner is Otter Tail County Chief Deputy Barry Fitzgibbons over challenger Fergus Falls Chief of Public Safety Kile Bergren. But not by much. During the re-count each candidate contested one ballot each, for a total of two ballots. Both gained 3 more votes each with Fitzgibbons at 12,716 over Bergren with 12,708, still just an 8 vote difference. While the result is still unofficial until the Ottertail County Canvassing Board meets Wednesday, County Auditor Wayne Stein says they can agree with the re-count team or side with the candidates on the two votes, however, as two votes would not change the winner it would be considered a moot point.
