The 2019 Governor’s Deer Opener gets underway today in Fergus Falls. The festivities start with the sold out “Big Buck Brunch”, at the Bigwood Event Center at 10am. Jean Bowman with Visit Fergus Falls says it should be quite an event to kick off the weekend, with Governor Tim Walz giving a short speech…
“…and he’ll only talk for 20 minutes to a half hour, we've also got a drumline from the high school who will be joining us at the end of his comments, and we're going to sort of process out in front of the Bigwood to the Only In MN monument and take a big blaze orange photo, because we expect a lot of people will be wearing either blaze orange or blaze pink in honor of hunting tradition and so that makes quite a good community photo. I think over 200 people coming for that…”
Bowman also says there will be a number of statewide media outlets, and DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen will also be making an appearance at the brunch as well.
After the brunch today, the Governor will meet up with his hunting part early Saturday morning.
Concluding the Governor’s Deer Opener weekend in Otter Tail County, the Governor will make an appearance at Mabel Murphy’s in Fergus Falls at 11am on Saturday, with an event called the “Tales of The Hunt. This event is open to the public, and Governor Walz will be sharing details about his hunt.
