Authorities in western Minnesota say they are trying to determine who was behind an apparent case of "swatting" Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies and several other law enforcement officers rushed to a scene in Hawley after a report that a person was being held hostage.

"Swatting" is the term for phony 9-1-1 calls made to emergency dispatch centers with the aim of having a SWAT team activated.

The surprised owner of the home let officers search and it was determined the call was a hoax.
