Acting Human Services Commissioner Pam Wheelock was questioned Tuesday at a hearing in the capitol about the delay in starting the investigation into whether Inspector General Carolyn Ham covered up child care fraud.

Republican Senator Michelle Benson asked Wheelock to tell him the day the investigation started. Wheelock didn't give a specific date -- noting it took time to hire an outside investigator. Benson responded:

"People want to know why this took so long; why somebody was getting paid when they weren't actually doing their job.... I can see we're not gonna get a lot of clarity on that."

Benson then asked when she expected the review to be completed. Wheelock responded that she hoped it would be sooner rather than later and said she has reason to believe it would be.
