James Poitra Sentenced

The man arrested in Detroit Lakes March 13th after being found in a school zone with a gun has been sentenced in Becker County District Court to 60 months in prison.
Thirty-seven-year-old James Andrew Poitra was convicted of felon in possession of a firearm or ammo.
Poitra was arrested after police were called to the Food ‘n Fuel gas station on a report of a suspicious male who’d been sleeping in the back of a vehicle.
Poitra refused to exit the vehicle for some time, but eventually complied with officers’ orders. He resisted arrest and damaged a police squad car. During booking, six rounds of ammunition was found in his pocket. And a handgun was found in the vehicle he was sleeping in.
Poitra was convicted in 1999 of second-degree assault and is prohibited for life from possession of any firearm or ammo.
He’ll get credit for 148 days already spent in jail.
