A New York Mills woman has been jailed pending serious charges after an incident on Saturday involving the injury to a one year old child.
Twenty-five year old Lavuya Jade Baker is accused of intentionally push and tripping the one year old whose family was visiting her apartment.
The child was not in Baker’s care, as the parent of the child was present. The child’s family was visiting from East Bethel, where they currently live. Court documents say that Baker is alleged to have stuck out her leg and purposely tripped and pushed the child, who then fell and hit her head on a wood floor.
At approximately 11:34am another person in the apartment called 911 after the mother of the child indicated that the child’s eyes rolled back in her head and was not responding immediately. The child was transported to an area emergency department for treatment, but at this time there does not appear to be substantial injuries to the child. The person who had contacted the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, said that Baker had allegedly been drinking the night before and into the morning until at least 5:30am on Saturday.
Baker was arrested and charged with 3rd degree assault, a felony, which could carry a sentence of up to five years in prison, or a $10,000 fine or both.
Baker is currently being held in the Otter Tail County Jail.
