Bird watchers have mentioned it and now researchers confirm it – the American population of birds is in a steep decline.
Researchers at Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology estimate the number of birds in the United States has dropped by three-billion in the last 40 years.
The habitats most affected are grasslands and boreal forests like those which cover more than half of the state of Minnesota.
The reduction in the bird population is about one-third of the total living here in the 1970s.
