An ominous sign posted at the store entrance in Fergus Falls and at the pharmacy inside the store state that effective Saturday, January 12th that customer’s prescriptions and prescription records are being transferred to Thrifty White Pharmacy with two locations in Fergus Falls. A member of the management team at the store confirmed the pharmacy closing but also said that it will not affect the store itself, that it was just the pharmacy part that was closing.
The Green Bay, WI Press-Gazette reported Wednesday that Shopko could file for bankruptcy protection from creditors as soon as next week, according to a pharmaceutical drug supplier that says the retailer owes it $67 million. The companies were in court for a hearing on McKesson's request for a restraining order to keep Shopko from selling medications it supplied the retailer. McKesson claims it has provided Shopko with $67 million in drugs since Nov. 11, but has not been paid since early December.
Shopko recently said it will close 39 stores in 14 states. Only one Wisconsin store, in Mauston, is closing.
According to its website, Green Bay-based retailer Shopko has more than 300 stores in the central U.S., West and Pacific Northwest. Formerly a public company, Shopko was purchased in 2005 by Sun Capital Partners Inc., a private equity firm based in Boca Raton, Florida.
