A Barnesville man is in custody in the Wilkin County jail following a high speed chase Tuesday afternoon with two children in his vehicle.
The Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a driving complaint north of Rothsay on County Road 52. The caller told authorities a vehicle was swerving on I-94 and exited at Rothsay before heading north on Wilkin County Road 52.
Wilkin County deputies located the vehicle south of Barnesville and when a deputy tried stopping the vehicle, it fled west on a minimum maintenance road at up to 50 mph as the road turned into a dirt trail. The vehicle reached Highway 9 and went north towards Barnesville at speeds over 100 mph.
Spike Strips were deployed by a Barnesville police officer, slowing the vehicle. The vehicle turned onto a gravel road on the southwest side of Barnesville, entered the right ditch, and stopped.
The driver, 27-year-old Andrew James Davidson, was taken into custody. Two of Davidson’s children, ages five and eight, were located in the back seat of the vehicle.
Davidson is being held on probable cause charges of fleeing, DWI, child endangerment, reckless driving, open bottle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
