Underwood senior Kindra Peterson is the Leighton Broadcasting/Quality Toyota Athlete of the Week.
Peterson has a unique high school athletic story. She is in her senior year at Underwood High School, but Underwood is with Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in soccer, so she wears a Comet uniform in the fall. When spring season rolls around, she plays softball for the Ottertail Central Bulldogs, a co-op program with Underwood Henning and Battle Lake.
“My favorite part of being involved with Hillcrest in soccer and Battle Lake and Henning in softball is just meeting all the new people I become teammates with,” said Peterson. “At Hillcrest every fall there is a new group of Norwegian students and so many of them are so talented in so many different areas. In the spring, seeing kids from Battle Lake and Henning makes for a totally different team dynamic and it’s fun to see how everything comes together.”
Hillcrest Soccer Coach Jeremy Mueller said, “I have had the honor of coaching Kindra since her eighth-grade year. She’s an incredibly talented athlete, but beyond that she is a leader and a servant. She is a true model of integrity and faith. Here strength and enthusiasm over the past few seasons has propelled our team to success and forced me to grow as a coach and raise my expectation of what we can accomplish on the field as a team.”
Peterson is unsure of her future plans, but does plan on pursuing secondary education, most likely on the East or West Coast. She is looking at completing a degree in the social sciences and plans on playing club soccer while furthering her education.
