OTC Sheriff's Department Warns of Phone Scams

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has been notified of multiple scam calls going around the area, one scam tactic indicates that your loved one has been in an accident and is now in jail. Then scammer solicits money to get the loved one out of jail.
The Sheriff's Office want to remind the public not to give out personal information over the
phone, including your full name, date of birth, social security number, or
banking information.
Area
residents lose a lot of money to phone scams each year. Be aware and do not fall victim to a
scam. Scammers have figured out
countless ways to cheat you out of your money over the phone. In some scams,
they act friendly and helpful, in others they might threaten or try to scare
you.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public if they are unable to decipher if the call is a scam or not, you can call the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number for assistance.
